History: Born to Thomas and Camille Alabaster, Sophia grew up idolizing her father and would often spend late nights watching him as he worked. Her mother was mentally ill and couldn’t handle much even when she actually took her medications. Her mother died in the hospital after a severe seizure 6 weeks after having brain surgery and her father disappeared.

She went to live with her Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Boris who saw her through those difficult times and supported her passion for the medical field. It was... an adjustment, going from a middle class situation to a very wealthy family. Gertrude dressed her like a doll, made her take some etiquette classes so that she wouldn’t be an “embarrassment” at parties, dragged her to several social events and forced her into piano lessons. The latter ended up being therapeutic for her and the rest? It, at the very least, helped with her social skills.

Gertrude and Boris had their own son named Benjamin, who became very close with Sophia over the years that she spent with them. There was some mutual bonding over Gertrude's eccentricities and they were seldom apart.

Sophia's father resurfaced when she was about 16 and told her everything regarding the cause of her mother's death and the reason he disappeared. His apology was poor at best and their relationship has been unstable.

She graduated highschool a year early and went straight to medical school. She started in internal medicine to get a good foundation and then moved on to specialize in cardiac surgery. She works long hours at the hospital, her clinic and even finds time to write articles for her field.

She currently lives with her cousin Benjamin and her German Shepherd Anubis. They share a lovely two story home.

Personality: Sophia is upbeat and eccentric; she lives for pranks, nicknames, and the occasional shameless flirting. She is highly devoted to her work and has no problem whatsoever sharing her knowledge with those around her.

She also is a very caring person. She's friendly and extroverted and she greets most everybody with a smile. She is protective of her friends and family and isn't afraid to stand up for them. At the very same time, she can get a bit absentminded when she's busy and forget important dates and events she may have planned with friends. She means well, she just rarely puts her work down.

Being that she is a redhead, she get a bit fiery in an argument, especially if it's someone who rubs her the wrong way. The same is when she doesn't like somebody; they will be the subject of particularly harsh scrutiny. On the flipside, like many doctors, she doesn't much care for being told that she's wrong, but she will eventually and begrudgingly accept it if given the evidence to back it up.

Science and medicine are her first and only loves. She prioritizes knowledge above all else. Hence, many of her past relationships have never lasted. She rarely takes the time to slow down and breathe. She has insomnia and rarely sleeps for more than a couple of hours at a time on a good night. Unsurprisingly, she lives on caffeine, dreams, and ambition.

Past relationships:

Robin: Her mentor during her last year of college and her residency. She was with him for 2 years before finding out he was married. Consequently, his wife also found out and left him.

Faye: One of the nurses at the hospital that she met during orientation. They were friends for years and then a couple for 3. Faye broke it off because Sophia was never around and she was constantly worrying over her wellbeing.

Sophia is very much her father's daughter. Like Sophia, he is very eccentric, hard-working and rarely sleeps. He has devoted his life to medicine and neurology is his passion. His wife had mental illness; she struggled with depression as well as bipolar disorder. She would often take herself off of her medications and become extremely manic with erratic behaviors; on the flipside, her depressive episodes were so bad that she tried to kill herself several times. Studying mental illness and coupling it with neurology, he thought that he could try to "cure" her. After consulting with other doctors and surgeons, they decided to perform the surgery coupled with a new medication that was on a clinical trial basis. The medication seemed to be effective and targeted the part of the brain that he was planning on working on. However, after the surgery, not only was his wife worse, but the medication caused her to have seizures. She was hospitalized several times; the surgery had been on the down-low and the doctor's that tried to treat her had no knowledge of it. With his name being compromised with his fellow doctors casting the blame on him, he fled when Sophia was 7 years old.

When Sophia was 16, he reappeared and explained everything. There was a good amount of friction between them; the abandonment that she had felt at that young age was still raw. Their relationship hasn't really improved when he's been too scared to make much of an effort.

Benjamin Sanders

Relation: Cousin

Benjamin is a shy, quiet boy who stays out of the way. He and Sophia grew up together from a young age and established a very close bond. Growing up wealthy, but with a very overbearing mother, Benjamin was more than happy to move out and have some autonomy. He owns his own small photography business and spends most of his time on his computer polishing and editing photos for his clientele.

He has a cat named Bastet and lives in a two-story house with Sophia.

Susan Bowers
Age: 56
Occupation: Nurse Practitioner
Relation: Friend/Sophia's NP

Susan is a hard-headed, surly, non-nonsense nurse with a long-standing family history in the medical field. Before working as a floor nurse, she worked as a prison security guard right out of high school; she did that well into her 20's until she decided to go get her RN. Thereafter, she worked as a nurse for the prison for a few more years. She and her husband then moved from New York to Kansas and she was forced to get another job at a local asylum. After a good few years jumping from the asylum to another local prison, she decided that she wanted a change of scenery and started working at a small hospital where she met Sophia. At the time, she was a Registered Nurse and was in school to get her NP license. After having worked together on the same floor for a couple of years, they established very good rapport with each other. When she was in her last semester of school, Sophia made her an offer to work under her and she accepted.
